A Recent Article Has Ruffled The Feathers Of Some Native Charlotteans

CHARLOTTE, NC — A recent opinion piece in The Charlotte Observer seems to have stuck a nerve among some Queen City residents.

Amy Chiou is the author of an Op/Ed titled “I’m Not A Charlotte Native. You Don’t Need To Tell Me That You Are.” The piece has received praise and criticism from people on both sides, and led many to wonder if there is in fact a struggle between native Charlotteans and the people who moved here.

Amy, a native Texan, wrote, in part, that when she hears someone say “I’m a native Charlottean”, “I feel unwelcome. I’m reminded of my outsider status.”
