PGA Championship Expected to Bring Crowds, Increased Traffic to Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC – South Charlotte neighbors are gearing up for increased traffic as 200,000 fans descend on Quail Hollow.

Practice rounds at the PGA Championship get underway Monday, with the biggest crowds expected later in the week.

“Probably heavy flow starting midweek, I would think,” says South Charlotte Resident Jason Woloszyn.

Neighbors say they’re prepared.

“I live around the corner so I’ll be walking to and from the tournament. And steering clear come Saturday,” Woloszyn says.

If you’re going, you can buy a parking pass online and ride a shuttle from locations like Bojangles Coliseum, Carowinds, and Ballantyne Business Park.

You can also take the light rail for free to Sharon Road West Station and board a shuttle there.

“Since I’m a native, I know some secret parking places I can use to not have to use the shuttle service, which there is no other choice really,” says South Charlotte resident Dick Stimart.

He says it’s worth putting up with because of how big a deal the championship is.

It’s expected to bring a $100 Million economic impact to our area.
