ROWAN COUNTY, NC — A tanker carrying roughly 8000 gallons of ethanol overturned on Bringle Ferry Road Tuesday afternoon.

Officials say around 7500 gallons has been cleared by a HAZMAT team. Some of the tankers contents remained in the tank, according to officials, and some spilled into a ditch beside the road. Crews were able to contain the spill to the area where the accident occurred.

Additional clean-up will start once crews have removed the tanker. Investigators with the NC Highway Patrol and NC DMV are working to determine what caused the accident.

Officials say Bringle Ferry Road is estimated to reopen around 5pm.
