School Board Approves $1.4 Billion Operating Budget For 2017-18 School Year
CHARLOTTE, NC — CMS leaders say they’re still looking to hire 155 teachers before classes begin on August 28th.
The school board approved its $1.4 billion operating budget for the 2017-2018 school year Tuesday night. It includes a raise for all district employees, including an average 3.3% pay increase for teachers.
The budget will also add six social workers and six counselors to district staff. CMS will also open five new schools this year.
Another hot topic at tonight’s meeting was suspension of younger students. In the end however, the board decided that Superintendent Clayton Wilcox will have to sign off on any Pre-K to second grade suspensions.
