HICKORY, NC — A 62-year-old man pleaded guilty Monday to voluntary manslaughter in the May 2016 death of his wife.
Ronald Lane was sentenced to five to seven years in prison after entering his plea. Officials say Lane approached an officer in the Long View Police Department parking lot on May 11, 2016 and confessed to killing his wife.
According to reports, officers went to Lane’s home and found his wife, 60-year-old Audrey Lane, shot to death inside. An autopsy showed Mrs. Lane died of gunshot wounds to her head and torso.
There had never been any reports of domestic violence, officials say, and Lane had no history of violent behavior. SBI Investigators say he did show signs of mental issues when interviewed several hours after the shooting.
Lane and his wife had been married 42 years.
