NCDOT Races To Repair Massive NE Charlotte Sinkhole Before School Starts

CHARLOTTE, NC — A massive sinkhole in northeast Charlotte is rerouting traffic, and the NCDOT is scrambling to get it repaired before school starts back.

Torrential rains washed out a 20-foot chunk of Mallard Creek Road near Prosperity Church Monday night. Fortunately, no one was injured.

Crews assessed the damage Tuesday afternoon and say repairs and replacement could take until the end of the month.

The closed section of Mallard Creek is near Mallard Creek High School. Jen Thompson with NCDOT Communications says NCDOT will work with CMS to handle traffic issues if the work isn’t done by the 28th, which is the first day of school.
