BURKE COUNTY, NC — A deputy that was exposed to chemicals on the site of a breaking and entering call Tuesday is recovering.
According to officials, Deputy Bryant Baker responded to a breaking and entering call at a facility that had been closed for years. Officials say Baker started experiencing “medical issues” within minutes of leaving the facility and was transported to a local hospital.
Officials believe Baker came in contact with chemicals while on site. He was treated, observed, and released Tuesday evening. The Burke County Sheriff’s Office says Deputy Baker is improving and is expected to return to his normal shift by Friday.
Burke County Emergency Operations is working with the NC Department of Environment and Natural Resources to investigate that site.
