Mayor Roberts Supporting Renaming of Stonewall Street Uptown

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Mayor Jennifer Roberts is on record saying she supports renaming Stonewall Street in uptown.

It’s named in honor of Confederate General Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson, whose wife lived in Charlotte.

Roberts believes Confederate Monuments belong in museums and not in places of public prominence.

Typically, 75% of the people who live on a street have to agree to a name change but, if the mayor formally requests the change, the city council can choose to sign off on it.
