Woman Dies After Crash Involving A CMPD Officer

CHARLOTTE, N.C — A woman has died after a vehicle crash involving a CMPD officer.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to a two vehicle accident with life-threatening injuries on the 500 block of West Sugar Creek Road at 12:35 p.m Saturday afternoon.

Police said the wreck involved an off duty CMPD officer in a marked patrol car and a female driver of a Honda Accord.

According to CMPD, the preliminary investigation determined that the officer was traveling south on West Sugar Creek Road when the female driver, identified as 25-year-old Lachandra Ciera Mccorkle, pulled into the intersection from Sofley Road.

The officer then struck the left side of the Honda Accord.

Mccorkle was transported by medic to Carolinas Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased by medical personnel.

The CMPD officer was transported to CMC with minor injuries.

The 500 block of Sugar Creek Road is currently shut down in both directions until the Major Crash Unit has completed their investigation.
