Votes to Begin on NC’s New Congressional Districts

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Floor votes start today on North Carolina’s newly drawn congressional districts.

The full house will vote on the senate plan and vice versa.

GOP leaders have until Friday to approve the new maps. This all comes after judges struck down nearly 30 districts as illegal racial gerrymanders.

Meantime, lawsuits challenging North Carolina’s congressional districts move forward.

Federal judges rejected a request by lawyers for the state’s legislative leaders, to hold off on the arguments while the court considers a similar case in Wisconsin.

The League of Women Voters and Common Cause argue that the North Carolina congressional map used last year unfairly favors republicans.
