Harvey Damage Continues as Local Groups Find Ways to Help Victims

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Right now, the storm is down to tropical depression status as it moves north from southwestern Louisiana, where it is expected to dump as much as another six inches of rain across several states.

Vice President Mike Pence is heading to Texas today to tour Harvey’s damage.

In Houston, flood waters are starting to recede but the number of storm related deaths is now up to more than 31 people.

Happening today, five swift water rescue teams from North Carolina are headed to southwestern Texas to help with ongoing rescue efforts. One of those teams has 18 members from the Charlotte Fire Department on it.

Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools are also pitching in to help the youngest Hurricane Harvey victims.

The district is encouraging families to donate brand new clothes that will be sent to Houston to help kids there.

In a phone message to parents last night, the district asked that the clothes simply be dropped off at your child’s school or a school in your neighborhood.
