Hurricane Harvey has devastated Texas after historic amounts of rainfall have caused widespread flooding. Hurricane Harvey made landfall Friday night near Corpus Christi before turning into a tropical storm and dumping up to 40 inches of rain in some areas.
Many people around the country are asking what they can do to help. Here is a list of ways you can help the victims of Hurricane Harvey:
Red Cross:
The Red Cross in Charlotte says the best way to help at this time is to provide monetary donations. Red Cross has sent trucks full of food, clothing, etc. but the vehicles are not able to get into the Houston area due to the major flooding. Donations can be sent by texting HARVEY to 90999 (this will send a $10 donation). You can also donate by visiting redcross.org or calling 1-800-RED-CROSS.
Food Banks:
Houston Food Bank and the Food Bank of Corpus Christi are asking for donations.
Humane Society:
To help animals impacted by Hurricane Harvey, visit the Houston Humane Society or the San Antonio Humane Society.
