CHARLOTTE, NC — Police have arrested 30-year-old Michael Wilfong on multiple fraud related charges.
According to CMPD, Wilfong would pose as a certified real estate broker on social media, befriend victims, and then offer to help them find homes for rent. Detectives say Wilfong would then charge the victims a down payment despite having no legal authority to act as an agent and not being a licensed realtor or broker.
Officials say Wilfong was arrested at his home Thursday without incident. He has been charged with four counts of Obtaining Property by False Pretense.
CMPD says anyone who may have met Wilfong and given him money as a down payment for a home should call 704-336-7600 or their local law enforcement to file a report. The investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with additional information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
