The Latest: Hurricane Irma’s Possible Impact In The Carolinas

State officials across the southeast aren’t taking any chances with Hurricane Irma.

South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster talked about preparations being made ahead of Hurricane Irma and plans for possible evacuations during a news conference Thursday afternoon.

North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper held a second news conference Thursday afternoon to address the preparations officials are making for the hurricane.

A state of emergency went into effective Thursday morning at 8am as officials continue to monitor Hurricane Irma. Cooper held a news conference Wednesday evening to discuss preparations the state is making as new models show that the massive storm could impact the Carolinas.

South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster issued a state of emergency Wednesday. McMaster also held a news conference to discuss preparations they are making for the hurricane.

Hurricane Irma is currently north of the Dominican Republic with 175mph winds.  It is moving towards the Bahamas at 16mph.  A hurricane watch has been issued for the southern tip of Florida.

Officials say at least 10 people were killed as Irma passed through the Caribbean islands Wednesday.
