CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man has been arrested after a loaded gun was found in his carry-on luggage at a Charlotte Douglas International Airport checkpoint.
The man was stopped just after 8 a.m. on Thursday at Checkpoint E, with a loaded nine millimeter handgun.
A TSA security officer noticed the firearm as the man’s bag passed through the X-ray machine on the conveyor belt.
The security officer contacted the CMPD, who charged the man with carrying a weapon on airport property.
TSA officers have found 39 firearms at Charlotte check points this year, after finding 54 firearms in 2016.
Passengers are allowed to travel with firearms in checked baggage if they are unloaded in a hard side case and packed separately from ammunition.
