CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte is about to get some much needed affordable housing.
Covenant Presbyterian Church in Dilworth is donating $2 million toward a proposed mixed-income development in West Charlotte.
The property is near a charter school and a grocery store on freedom drive, which are both pretty rare sights in that neighborhood.
Senior Pastor Bob Henderson stated, “We want to work toward family stability by giving safe, and goods homes to people at an affordable rate so they can live there, raise children and create a safe home environment that then has a ripple effect of education and community involvement and health.”
Last September, Charlotte City Council set a goal to build five thousand affordable homes in three years, as part of a promise to the public after the Keith Scott shooting.
