Gov. Cooper Orders Flags To Be Flown At Half-Staff In Honor Of Fort Bragg Soldiers

FORT BRAGG, NC (AP) – Four soldiers remain hospitalized a day after an apparent demolition accident killed a student during Green Beret training at Fort Bragg.

U.S. Army Special Operations Command Lt. Col. Robert Bockholt said Friday that investigators haven’t told him whether an explosion caused the death of 32-year-old Staff Sgt. Alexander Dalida of Dunstable, Massachusetts. Seven soldiers were injured Thursday.

Bockholt said four still required hospital care Friday, while three others were treated and released.

Governor Roy Cooper issued the following statement on the accident:

β€œOur hearts are heavy with the news of the training accident and loss of life at Fort Bragg. We are grateful for the selfless service of members of our military and their families, and our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this tragedy.”

On Friday, Governor Cooper also ordered all US and NC flags to be flown at half-staff in honor of those injured and killed in the incident.
