More Students Come Forward With Sexual Assault Allegations Against Mint Hill Substitute

MINT HILL, NC — Police say more students have come forward after a 31-year-old former substitute at Rocky River High School was charged with taking indecent liberties with a student Thursday.

According to officials, additional students have either come forward or have been identified through further investigation into sexual assault allegations against Lamont Barrett. Detectives say additional charges against Barrett will be released once the information is verified.

On Thursday, police said that Barrett had inappropriate contact with a 16-year-old male student while working as a substitute teacher at the high school. Barrett was also accused of showing the teen inappropriate videos involving sexual acts.

Barrett was arrested Wednesday at a secondary home in Lexington, SC. Officials say Barrett waived extradition and was returned to Mint Hill.

He is charged with seven felony counts of Indecent Liberties with a Student.

School officials say Barrett, who was fired Thursday, was hired on March 30, 2017 and then removed as a substitute on September 1st. Officials say he never substituted at any CMS school other than Rocky River.

The investigation is ongoing, and police say anyone with information about this incident or any others should call Mint Hill Police at 704-545-1085.
