ROCK HILL, SC — Police have charged a 43-year-old woman with attempted murder after they say she shot her mother in the head and planned to burn down the apartment building.
Around 6:30pm, officers responded to an apartment complex on Iredell Street where they found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound to the top of her head. The victim told police that she and her daughter, Patricia Garcia, were the only two inside when the incident happened.
Officials say Garcia was held up inside her bedroom and SWAT was called to the scene.
When she was finally negotiated out, police say they found a gun on the bedroom floor, a spent shell casing standing upright beside a lit candle on the dresser, and two filled cans of gasoline. Investigators say receipts were also found inside Garcia’s purse that showed the gas was purchased just an hour and a half before the shooting.
Garcia’s mother told officers that she had no idea the gun and gas cans were inside the apartment.
Investigators say the items suggest that Garcia planned to kill her mother and then burn down the apartment building.
Patricia Garcia is charged with Possession of a Weapon During a Violent Crime and Attempted Murder.
