Ardrey Kell Staff At Providence Game After Last Week’s Bad Behavior

CHARLOTTE, NC — “Honestly the majority of students are very shocked by this,” said Andrea Houpt, Ardrey Kell junior.

Ardrey Kell students arriving for Friday night football against their rival Providence High say they do not expect a repeat of last week’s chaos… chaos that caused Principal David Switzer to kick the entire student body out of the student stands.

“Whether it’s kids shouting obscenities, it’s physical interaction with that, whether its not keeping in line with the school spirit,” said
David Switzer, Ardrey Kell Principal

The principal sent a connect message to parents earlier this week telling them students were drunk, high, yelling racial slurs and even spitting on the band.

Band Director Jackson Dumas says the whole situation was unfortunate giving the school a bad name.

“It’s not representative of the student body, and I know that for a fact. I know it was a particular number of people, a small number of people,” said Dumas.

Switzer says the issues were addressed with those people.

“Students owned up to what they did, they took ownership of that throughout the week, our students leadership class got together ,” said Switzer.

More school staff were on hand tonight making sure only Ardrey Kell students made it into the stands.

“Obviously what went on at this game was something that shouldn’t have and we need to learn from this, move forward, and realize our actions were bad. That they negatively affected our peers,” said Houpt.
