Police Identify Person Killed After Getting Hit By An Amtrak Train In NE Charlotte

UPDATE: Police have identified the woman who was struck and killed by an Amtrak train in north Charlotte Friday night.

According to the CMPD Sarah Weagba Doe, 63, died after being hit by an Amtrak train off Old Concord Road.

Police say Doe was a passenger in a white Chevrolet Equinox which was stopped at the railroad crossing at McLean Road and Old Concord Road. Β The crossing gate arms were down and the red caution lights were flashing. Β After an unspecified amount of time, Doe got out of the vehicle andΒ manually lifted the railroad crossing gate arm, so the Equinox could pass through.

After the Equinox passed under the gate arm and crossed the railroad tracks, Doe tried to cross Β the tracks to get back in the vehicle, but was struck by the Amtrak train in the process.

The Amtrak passenger train stopped after the incident. Β None of the train passengers were injured.

This accident remains under investigation.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Police are investigating after a pedestrian was hit by a train in northwest Charlotte Friday night.

The accident happened at Old Concord Road and McLean Road. Officials say one person was pronounced dead on scene.

An Amtrak train was involved in the accident, according to officials, and is stopped with passengers on board. CATS is working to transport those stranded passengers. No other injuries were reported.

Officials say a freight train is also stopped across McLean Road blocking traffic due to the Amtrak train being stopped further down.

The area could be blocked for hours, according to officials.
