City, CMPD Say No Permit Requests Filed For Anti-Communist Rally
CHARLOTTE, NC — CMPD is looking to dispel rumors still swirling about a proposed anti-communist rally in Charlotte this December.
The department says they have received roughly 500 phone calls after a social media post about the protest. The protest is said to feature white supremacist speakers and symbols.
CMPD and the City say they have yet to receive any requests for a protest permit from the group, however.
Deputy Chief Jeff Estes says groups can peacefully assemble without a permit, but permits are required if there is any use of amplified sound or any street closures requested.
