UPDATE:Β The anti-communist rally scheduled for December 28th at Marshall Park in Charlotte, has been canceled.
Anticom, the group organizing the event, cited safety concerns as the reason for the cancellation.
The CMPD News Twitter account posted an update saying they were trying to reach Anticom to get more information.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Protesters who want to carry torches in uptown, during a post-Christmas rally, plan to apply for a permit with CMPD today.
The anti-communist group started circulating a flyer online Thursday, which says the rally will be on December 28th in Marshall Park.
This morning, a 2nd group, Charlotte Against Racism is planning a counter protest.
The organizer says his group wants to show up at the same time and same place, because that anti-communist group has speakers that are tied to the white supremacist rally in Charlottesville.
“We also have first amendment rights as well and I think we should oppose them, raise our voices, and let them know they are not welcome in our city”, stated group member Jibril Hough.
CMPD is promising to vet the anti-communist group if it does apply for a permit today.
