South Charlotte church holds vigil for Las Vegas victims

CHARLOTTE, NC– “Try to find some peace in all of this, it’s overwhelming to us,” said Trinity Presbyterian Church of Charlotte member, Lisa Tappy.

Parishioners at Trinity Presbyterian Church of Charlotte off Providence Road say they didn’t know how else to cope with the Las Vegas tragedy than come together and pray.

“It’s a difficult time and we sort of rally around each other at our church its where we feel comfortable and where we can pray,” said church member, Phil Tappy.

“I thought it was meaningful and special and hard, hard to hear all the names,” said church member, Laura-Nelle Hurst.

“I was sort of surprised there wasn’t some big community thing I was shocked by that,” said Tappy.

Senior Minister Reverend Steve Lindsley says they lit candles and said the name of each victim – trying to bring some light in these dark times.

” If we can shine our light in our own little world if everybody can focus on doing that then the darkness gets less dark,” said Rev. Lindsley.

During the candle lighting, they also chose to light a candle for the shooter and said his name out loud.

” I think anybody who prayed for the shooter struggles with that and questions why they’re doing that but we recognize there’s a deep sense of brokenness for that person’s family as well,” said Associate Pastor, Grace Lindvall.
