KERSHAW, S.C. — Officials say two students have been suspended after a loaded handgun was found at Andrew Jackson High School in Kershaw.
A teacher reportedly saw the student with the gun and reported the incident to other staff members.
During a search, the gun was found in another student’s backpack, along with marijuana. Both students were suspended for 10 days and could be expelled, pending a hearing. Officials say both students were 17-years-old.
Police have officially charged Devin Wright for carrying a weapon on school property. Investigators say Wright placed the gun and the marijuana inside the other student’s book bag before he was taken to the office and questioned about the pistol. No criminal charges have been filed against the other student involved.

The gun was described as a .380 semi-automatic pistol. All students and staff members are safe. Officials say they do not believe the students had any intentions to harm anyone.
