Subway® restaurants in Charlotte and surrounding areas and local food and nutrition expert Allison Koch are celebrating World Food Day with a series of “Share the Color” food workshops.
The “Share the Color” food workshops are designed to teach children how to make better food choices and the importance of making colorful fruits and vegetables part of their daily meals and snacks.
Timed around World Food Day on Oct. 16, the food workshops are free and will cover basic nutrition information with a hands-on sub making activity and free lunch. Children will also receive a take-home food explorer coloring book. Space is limited and registration is required through Eventbrite.
“The fall season is a great time to enjoy our plentiful local produce,” said Koch. “We want to encourage kids to explore the many colorful foods that are essential to their overall health.”
Koch is a registered dietitian with her certificate of training in childhood and adolescent weight management, and has worked as a clinical dietitian in Hickory. She is currently pursuing her doctorate in nutrition at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she teaches nutrition to students majoring in health sciences. She holds a master’s degree in family and consumer science from Western Michigan University.
Additionally, a Dietetic Internship graduate student from Winthrop University will present a family food activity on Oct. 30 at the Subway restaurant on West Main Street in Rock Hill.
