CHARLOTTE – N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews will close two ramps this week along Interstate 277, as part of a $16.3 million project to improve 22 bridges in the area.
Tonight:
Crews will close the ramp from I-77 North to the I-277 Outer Loop (Exit 9B) from 8:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday. Traffic will be detoured from I-77 North to Remount Road (Exit 8). Motorists will turn left on Remount Road, then right on Wilkinson Boulevard back to I-277.
The closure is needed so crews can add a concrete overlay to a bridge deck.
Tuesday, Oct. 24:
N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews will close the ramp from the Interstate 277 Inner Loop to U.S. 74 East (Exit 2B) from 8:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. Wednesday.
Traffic will be detoured from I-277 to E. Fourth Street (Exit 2A). Motorists will turn right and follow to McDowell Street, then right at E. Fifth Street back to U.S. 74 East.
The closure is needed so crews can groove the bridge deck, with the intent of making a safer ride for drivers.
All closures are weather permitting and subject to change.
Drivers are urged to slow down and pay extra attention when approaching these work zones.
