Original Story
CABARRUS COUNTY, NC — Some Concord and Kannapolis residents are without water after a contractor hit a water main Wednesday afternoon.
The incident happened on Hwy 73 near Jim Johnson Road. Officials say the contractor bored into a 24-inch water main.
Concord Water Resources crews have contained the leak, but say it will be several hours before repairs can be completed. Crews will replace the entire section of pipe, but must first let all of the water drain from the line.
Affected Concord customers are located in the Cabarrus Crossing subdivision, Christ the King Catholic High School, and the commercial developments at Highway 73 and Shiloh Church Road. Affected Kannapolis customers include the Wellington Chase, Pelham Point, Waterford, and Farm at Riverpoint subdivisions, as well as potential other customers along Shiloh Church Road.
Officials say repairs are currently expected to be done by 10pm.
