BELMONT, NC — A 52-year-old man has died from injuries after being hit by a train while walking the tracks Tuesday evening.
Police say the incident happened around 5:25pm at the railroad crossing on S. Main Street. Shaukat Mehmood was taken to CaroMont Regional Medical Center with life threatening injuries, but was pronounced dead Friday.
Police say they are still trying to determine what caused the collision, but no foul play is suspected.
