Christmas Creep: The Holiday Season Starts Earlier Each Year
Ready or not, it seems the Christmas season is here only two days into November.Β The biggest retailers want you to start shopping now.
Amazon and eBay are already offering Black Friday deals for online shoppers.Β Walmart plans to attract shoppers with in-store parties and visits from Santa in its supercenters.Β The first parties are this Saturday.
Meanwhile, Target promised to take a stand against the Christmas creep and hold off until after Thanksgiving.Β But shoppers found Christmas decorations mixed with the Halloween candy last week.Β The chain only plans to delay decorating near the store entrance.
So are these retailers just giving people what they want?Β According to the National Retail Foundation, 40 percent of consumers say they start Christmas shopping before November.Β 42 percent say they wait until November to start shopping and only 18 percent hold off until December.
So how early is too early to get into the Christmas spirit?
