Carolina Insight: World Sandwich Day

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Today Subway restaurants here and worldwide are celebrating World Sandwich Day with a special offer to help fight hunger.

For each sub and 30 oz. drink purchased together, Subway will donate the monetary equivalent of a meal ($0.09) to Feeding America.

Meals will be secured by Feeding America and are distributed by local member food banks. Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina supplies food and grocery items to over 700 partner agencies in a 19-county service area (14 counties in NC and 5 counties in SC).

Agencies include soup kitchens like Urban Ministries, emergency pantries like Loaves and Fishes, homeless shelters like Center of Hope, senior program, low-income daycares, and also animal rescue organizations.

Last year, Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina distributed over 54 million pounds of food and other household items with 18 million pounds of fresh produce, meat and dairy.

Donating food or funds is a great way to help Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina. Hold a food / fund drive any time of year – with monetary donations, the food bank is able to purchase 7 pounds of food with just $1.

Companies and individuals can also get involved with one of our SHFBM programs for kids, seniors, families or pets.
