Citizen Review Board Finds No Wrongdoing In Police Shooting
CHARLOTTE, NC — After nearly three and a half hours of presentations and debate, the Citizen Review Board sided with Chief Kerr Putney by saying the undercover officer who shot and killed 28-year-old Josue Diaz was justified.
The shooting happened January 26th on Albemarle Road after CMPD says Diaz sideswiped an undercover detective’s unmarked police SUV.
The detective followed the truck and called for help. He says Diaz stopped abruptly, then got out and fired, so the detective fired back.
Diaz family attorney Alex Heroy attended the CRB hearing with Diaz’s wife and says the family sees the incident much differently.
Diaz was shot in the chest, abdomen, and hands. CMPD says it recovered a .22 caliber revolver from the scene, which matched a bullet hole in the detective’s car.
CRB Legal Counsel, Cary Davis says the board reviewed all the evidence and presentations carefully.
