5th Grader Charged For Calling In False Threat At York Intermediate School

Detectives say they were able to positively identify the caller as a 5th grade student at York Intermediate School.  Officials also determined that there was no actual threat or person with a gun on campus.

The juvenile is being petitioned to York County Family Court for disturbing schools.

YORK, SC — At a news conference Thursday afternoon, officials said a 911 caller reported a man with a gun at York Intermediate prompting a lockdown at several surrounding schools.

The York County Sheriff’s Office says the incident was reported around 2:30pm. York Middle School, Jefferson Elementary, and York Intermediate were all placed on lockdown as deputies and York Police officers searched the area.

Officials say York Intermediate was searched and the area was deemed safe. York School District One lifted the lockdowns around 3:20pm.

Deputies say the call was made using a cell phone and investigators are currently working to trace that phone.

School officials say students had already been dismissed for the day at the time of the incident. Faculty and after school students were the only people on campus at the time.
