UNION COUNTY, N.C. — A man has been arrested in Union County, after he apparently broke into a Monroe residence and began cooking.
According to the Union County Sheriff’s Department, Sheriff Eddie Cathey responded to a breaking and entering in progress in the 1900 block of Gables Drive in Monroe.
Upon arrival, Sheriff Cathey and Chief Deputy Todd Elmore encountered two female residents, who said they came home and found glass on the ground from a broken window on the front door.
The door showed signs of forced entry and the females reported the man was in the kitchen cooking food.
Sheriff Cathey and Chief Elmore entered the home and found Rusty Lee Pope, 46, inside. Pope appeared to have dry blood on his hand and smelled strongly of alcohol.
Pope was taken into custody and charged with Breaking and Entering and Injury to Personal Property.
