CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Detectives with the CMPD’s Providence Division have charged Tyrez Tarell Nea for Possession of a Weapon on School Grounds.
On November 15, 2017, at approximately 6:26 p.m., Officers responded to Charlotte Country Day School, located at 1440 Carmel Road, in reference to an ‘Assault with a Deadly Weapon’ call for service. Officers were notified by school security that an altercation occurred between two coaches on the school campus.
During the investigation, detectives determined that Neal was working as the head coach of the JV Women’s Basketball team at Charlotte Country Day School, when an altercation occurred between Neal and an assistant coach with the Varsity Men’s Basketball team, Dijuan Harris. During the altercation, Neal threatened Harris with the use of a firearm. No students were harmed during the incident.
Officers on the scene located two firearms belonging to Mr. Neal. Mr. Neal was arrested without incident and transported to the Providence Division where he was interviewed by Detectives and subsequently transported to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office where he is currently in custody.
