Suspect In Custody After Car Jacking And Police Chase

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man is in custody following a car jacking and police chase in Charlotte.

According, to the CMPD, at about 8:57 a.m. Wednesday morning, officers responded to a robbery in the 2200 block of Catherine Simmons Avenue.  The victim said a man with a gun took her vehicle.

Officers located the vehicle at about 10:15 a.m. on Statesville Avenue.   The driver refused to stop for police and a pursuit ensued.

Police say the suspect sideswiped a vehicle during the pursuit but no one was injured.

After crashing into a tree near N. Tryon and W. 29th Street, the suspect ran from the scene.

He was caught on N. Pine Street shortly thereafter and taken to CMC for treatment of minor injuries.

The suspect’s name and charges have not been released yet.
