CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man is in custody after leading law enforcement on a high speed chase and running into a school van with children on board.
The North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles says a DMV License and Theft Bureau Inspector saw a vehicle being driven recklessly on I-485 during his morning commute.
The inspector put on his lights and siren but the driver did not stop. The inspector followed the vehicle until the driver’s collision with the school van.
Officials say no one was injured in the accident and the driver jumped out of the car and ran away.
Authorities apprehended the driver minutes later.
He is being charged with Fleeing to Elude Arrest, Careless and Reckless Driving, Driving While License Revoked, Felony Hit and Run and, Resisting, Obstructing and Delaying an Officer.
