Couch Chat: When Do You Tell Hackers Enough Is Enough?

Hackers hot Mecklenburg County where it hurts… holding files hostage. Today’s 1pm deadline is nothing new. Montgomery County, Alabama just paid between 40-50 thousand dollars to get millions of files from it’s hackers.
The Montgomery advertisers reports there were about 4 thousand national cyber attacks everyday in 2016.

And in the first three months of last year, more than $209 million in ransom-ware payments were made. The FBI doesn’t support paying ransom. Neither does the Department of Justice. The concern here is copycats… since you do expose your willingness to pay up. But when county business is at a standstill, do county leaders have any other choice?
