Seven Students Arrested After Multiple Fights Break Out At West Meck High School

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Officials say seven students were arrested at West Meck High School after multiple fights broke out at the school.

A video posted to social media shows a large group of students fighting.

Police say they responded to the school just before 1pm after they were called in reference to multiple fights occurring on campus.  A total of six students were arrested and charged with public affray due to their direct and physical involvement in the fights, according to a news release.

Police say one student sustained a minor injury as a result of smashing a window during a fight with another student.

Investigators say a seventh student was arrested for pushing an officer.  That student will be charged with assault on a government official.  The officer was not injured.

CMS released the following statement regarding the fight:

“CMS is committed to a safe learning environment at all of its campuses and the district takes any incident that threatens the safety and well-being of students and staff or disrupts the learning environment very seriously. Multiple fights occurred on the campus of West Mecklenburg High School today. Following CMS procedures, the West Mecklenburg campus was placed on lockdown and CMS PD and CMPD were called. Arrests were made by CMPD this afternoon and CMS PD and CMPD are investigating the incident. Students involved in today’s incident will be disciplined according to the CMS student code of conduct. Extra security will be on hand tomorrow at West Mecklenburg, and CMS will respond further and as needed to protect the safety and well-being of students and staff.”
