High Country Preparing for High Winds, Extreme Wind Chill

BOONE, NC – In the High Country, people are bundling up for bitterly cold temperatures. They’re expected to plunge into the low teens tonight, with wind chills below zero overnight.
Snow falling and gusty winds Tuesday night making for a blustery walk for anyone willing to brave downtown Boone.
“I can’t really feel my face,” says Boone resident Graham Gibson.
There are slick spots on Highway 421 heading into Boone. Over an inch of snow fell during the day Tuesday, with plenty left over from last week.
“I was not thinking when I left for work and my ears are freezing right now!” says Boone resident Bella Allen.
High winds mean there’s a chance trees could fall, knocking out power, and leaving people in the extreme cold.

β€œWalking outside to all of my classes and finals these past couple of days, it’s awful. And this is definitely a bad day to be outside,” says Appalachian State sophomore Jake Powell.
