Couch Chat: Next Wave of Feminism

Women aren’t just talking about girl power. We’re taking it. Cosmopolitan calls 2017 the year women stopped worrying about being nice. Merriam-Webster made feminism it’s word of the year since searches went up 70%. The ‘Me Too’ movement, Wonder Woman, and equality marches are all credited for the spike.

Back in the mid-19th century when the term ‘feminism’ was first used, it simply meant feminine qualities of character. Boy, have we come a long way! In the 1910’s to the 1950’s feminism focused on women’s right to vote and eventually own property. IN the 60’s to the 80’s… the 2nd wave of feminism focused on equality at home and work along with reproductive rights. Individualism and diversity summed up the feminist movement in the 90’s and early two thousand. Now the 4th wave of feminism focuses on sexual harassment, assault and misogyny. What’s next?
