Pineville Dedicates New Bridge To Fallen Firefighter

PINEVILLE, NC — Fallen firefighter Richard Sheltra was honored Wednesday by having the new Polk Street bridge dedicated in his name.

Friends and family came together as the NCDOT dedicated the “Richard Sheltra Bridge” over Little Sugar Creek on Polk Street. Sheltra’s mother, father, and sister joined dozens of Pineville firefighters, community leaders, and residents for the dedication.

Sheltra died in April 2016 from smoke inhalation while battling a fire at a golf store. He was 20-years-old.
