Two Rowan County Students Charged After A Gun Was Brought On A School Campus, Then Stolen

SALISBURY, NC — Deputies are still trying to find a handgun that was stolen out of a back pack after being brought to West Rowan High School Wednesday. WRHS students Noah Lance and Mekhi Robinson are both facing charges related to the incident.

Deputies say Lance was shooting the gun, a Taurus Model 6605, at his grandparents’ home Tuesday afternoon and placed it in his back pack when he left. After realizing it was still there when he got to school, officials say Lance panicked and told two friends. A third person, Mekhi Robinson, was believed to have overheard the conversation.

Lance left his bag unattended briefly during his fourth block class, according to reports, and found it open with the gun missing when he returned. That’s when deputies say Lance reported everything to school officials.

Lance’s mother confirmed his story about leaving the gun in his back pack, officials say, and security footage showed Robinson leaving campus during fourth block after Lance confronted him about the alleged theft.

Detectives went to Robinson’s home where they say he was uncooperative, but eventually confessed to taking to gun. However, the gun could not be found.

Shortly before 6pm, Robinson’s mom called detectives and told them her son had thrown the gun down a steep bank off of Highway 801. Deputies conducted a search of the area but say again, the gun was not found.

Deputies returned to Robinson’s home and executed a search warrant for the home and seized his phone, but still the gun was not found.

Mekhi Robinson

Robinson is charged with felony Possession of a Firearm on a School Campus and felony Larceny of a Firearm. He’s being held under a $1000 secured bond.

Lance was charged with felony Possession of a Firearm on a School Campus and released to his mother on a written promise.
