Who Would You Like To See Buy The Panthers?
Carolina Panthers owner and founder Jerry Richardson is stepping aside from the organization, one day after he announced he’s selling the team.
The team named Tina Becker its chief operating officer and she’ll now oversee the Panthers’ day-to-day operations.
Becker has served in several roles since joining the Panthers organization in 1999.
She’s effectively been Richardson’s second-in-command since Panthers president Danny Morrison resigned in February.
Richardson issued a statement Sunday, saying he will put the team up for sale after the season ends.
On Monday, head coach Ron Rivera said he was surprised and disappointed to learn about the plans to sell the team, but he would like to see the Panthers stay in Charlotte.
Rivera said, “This organization has had a tremendous impact on the Carolinas. It has helped the growth of this city and this community. It’s been a source of pride and goodwill. I’d like to see it continue.
Richardson already has a potential buyer.
Hip-hop mogul Diddy tweeted that he would like to buy the team.
He also posted a video on Instagram saying he’d be the best team owner you can imagine and would put Colin Kaepernick in the running for starting quarterback.
Both Kaepernick and Charlotte-native Steph Curry tweeted support for Diddy.
