Potential Impacts From Major Winter Storm
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A massive winter storm is dropping snow and freezing rain along the East Coast causing dangerous driving conditions. Some locations, like Tallahassee, FL even received their first measurable snowfall in nearly 30 years. This system caused school and business closings along the southeast and will impact the Northeast through early Friday. Blizzard warnings are in effect for New England as 70+mph wind gusts and a foot of snow are even possible with this monster storm.
The WCCB Viewing Area was mainly spared from the wrath of this storm, however a few locations like Cheraw, SC saw a light dusting of snow making for slick road conditions. Black ice is a major concern in the coming days, therefore a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Anson, Stanly and Richmond Counties.
Behind this system, very strong winds with gusts 20+mph will be possible across the Piedmont. Gusts in the high country could near 50 mph.
This will make for dangerous wind chills – well below zero for many through the afternoon. We could even be waking up to wind chills near 20 below across the higher elevations.
A Wind Chill Advisory is in effect for all counties north of the I-40 corridor, as well as Rowan County until 10am on Friday. Ashe, Avery and Watauga Counties have an extended Wind Chill Advisory until noon on Friday.
Winds will die down my midday on Friday, but temperatures will remain well below average through the weekend with highs only reaching the mid 30s.
