Shelters Staying Open All Day As Bitter Cold Temps Continue

CHARLOTTE, NC — In Mecklenburg County, the agencies that deal with the homeless population say warming centers aren’t necessary at the moment due to the availability of shelters.

Existing year-round shelters are staying open all day. Last night, more than 850 people stayed in those shelters and roughly 100 beds still remained empty.

Volunteers are also handing out sleeping bags, blankets, and warmers for people who say they don’t want to stay in a shelter.
