Couch Chat: Breaking The Celluloid Ceiling
2017 was the year women were super-heroes, Jedi Warriors, and box-office champs… but too few of them had jobs behind the camera. Last year, out of the top 250 movies, only 18% had women in major roles like writers, editors and producers. Roughly, the same amount of women were helping make movies when, “The Big Lebowski” and “You’ve Got Mail” came out – 20 years ago.
Here’s the big picture. According to Variety, Hollywood’s top movies have shown more than 40% of young women in “sexy attire” over the last 10 years.
35% with some nudity… while almost 61% of female actors were thin.
Clearly… not having women in leadership roles is having a domino effect on what we see on the big screen.
What message does that send?
