DOT Officials Say They Made A lot Of Progress On Secondary Roads–But Their Work Isn’t Done Yet

CHARLOTTE, NC– DOT has taken care of interstates and primary roads across our area. State and city crews are working to make sure residential roads are clear. City and state DOT officials say with the help of the sun today, they made a lot of progress on secondary roads like this neighborhood–but their work isn’t done yet.

As snow falls from the trees and melts into slush, some residential neighborhoods in Lincolnton County, look like an ice rink.

“But there’s some secondary roads where there’s a lot of shade and it’s just a sheet of ice,” says Lincolnton County resident Marco Arias.

“We’ve seen a lot of cars down that hill right there just trying to come up and they just kept sliding back.”

NC DOT says its focusing on secondary roads, but of course, crews can’t hit them all in one day.

“I’ve seen a lot of cars go off the road, and I just know that it’s very dangerous.”

Same concern in Gastonia, residents happy to see crews taking care of their roads.

“It’s has been cleared up today a little bit more than yesterday,” says Laura Alsina.

State-maintained neighborhood streets are cleared after all other state roads. Charlotte DOT says most of the city’s secondary roads are clear–but there’s still a chance of some icy patches.

“The areas that are real shady would have some ice and that was about it,” says Paul Shipley, who lives in Elizabeth.
