Because Of The Government Shutdown, Your Tax Return Could Come Late
CHARLOTTE, NC– The Better Business Bureau in Charlotte says scammers capitalize on events like the government shutdown. The BBB says scammers are sending e-mails claiming to be from the IRS, asking you to confirm personal information. The IRS was closed today, so don’t fall for it! Not only that, experts say your tax returns could be delayed, but you still need to file them by the deadline.
We’ve seen the national headlines of the government shutting its doors. A little closer to home, Desiree Walters is wondering how she’s going to pay her rent, if her tax return comes late.
“I still am concerned because I don’t really know how the end is going to be,” says Walters.
Local accountants say despite the Internal Revenue Service being closed, you could still e-file tax returns and process tax returns.
“So with the shutdown, yes, it could be even longer to get refunds,” says Owner of M.N.D Accounting Mary Nicole Douglas.
The silver lining is since the e-file has been open, there won’t be much of a backlog.
“Well I hate to say it people, but you still have to file your taxes. You’re still going to have to file it by the deadline.”
Other federal services, like the VA did stay open. but some veterans were still scared they might not get what they need.
“It does concern me it’s a because government entity and it’s more like will my practitioner be there,” says veteran Robert Donovan.
