Third Suspect Charged in Connection to August 2017 Homicide
The Latest:
A third suspect has been charged in the August 2017 shooting death of Kyyri De Ji Marquis Doggette.
31-year-old Layfayette Burney is charged with Aid and Abet in connection to Doggette’s murder. Police say Burney was arrested Tuesday morning, and charged following an interview.

Update on January 11, 2018:
CMPD’s Homicide Unit has charged a second individual, Lameek Singleton, with the murder of Kyyri De Ji Marquis Doggette.
During the course of their investigation detectives developed Probable Cause against Singleton for his involvement in this case. He was already in the custody of the Mecklenburg County Jail for unrelated charges and has now been charged with 1st degree murder for his involvement in the death of Doggette.
CMPD also charged Andre Earl Brooks, 23, in the shooting death of Kyyri De Ji Marquis Doggette.
Brooks is charged with Murder, Shooting into an Occupied Property Inflicting Serious Injury and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Police are investigating a homicide after a man was shot in southeast Charlotte.
The shooting happened around 7:15pm on East Independence Boulevard near Wallace Road. Police say 25-year-old Kyyri De Ji Marquis Doggette was found shot inside his car when they arrived, and was pronounced dead on the scene.
This is Charlotte’s 55th homicide of 2017.
Police have not released any information on a suspect at this time, but are asking for surveillance video from surrounding stores.
